doesnt work

I just purchased an eddition, however, wasnt able to download it (dowload process dosent work properly).

Best way to be informed about German politics

As a German living abroad, I cant live without my weekly dose of well researched information on German an international topics by DER SPIEGEL. You guys rock!

English version too please

The English version website is excellent. Any chance that can be included in the app? Thanks.

This is how you put a magazine or newspaper on the iPad

Hey Time Magazine, WSJ, NYTimes, take a look at this app. This is the best newspaper/magazine implementation so far. If they keep the price at or less than 50% of the paper magazine for individual issue sales or subscriptions, then they deserve 10 stars. Beautifully executed, makes me want to read it -- and improve my German.

Well done but

unfortunately the price per issue with USD 4.99 is too high. The printed version does cost Euro 3.80 in Germany which at the current exchange rate is about USD 4.60. I do not see the point to pay more for an electronic version of a magazine or newspaper. For the next update I would like to see a zoom function implemented, for example with a double-tap as it is done in PressReader.

Excellent App

Awesome app for a great magazine. Fun to read articles on the iPad, and videos are available, too. Good job, well done!

Super, danke!

I like the app. Not as engaging as, say, Paris Match visually, but thats not really what counts. The price of the magazine should definitely be cheaper than the print version, as you dont need to cut down trees, transport them to the paper factory, turn them into paper, print them with ink that costs money, then ship the magazine around the world. So, no the price is not justified, quality journalism or not.

Great iPad app but too expensive

Best reader and nice to navigate. Pics and small movies make it worth while. Positive: you can download the magazine and read it offlline. Negative: too expensive for the digital copy. Should be 50% of the hard copy.

Great implementation of a print magazine

So far, there are only a few magazines in the App store that really work for me. Wired Magazine is one of them. Der Spiegel is another and it does a good job at mirroring the print magazine while allowing for implementation of additional story-telling mediums. The format may not please everyone because its format is derived from print but Der Spiegel is not an entertainment-digital-lifestyle-fashion magazine first and foremost: You buy it to read the articles and expect decent quality journalism, which it lives up to. They even manage to breach the "iron curtain of Apple" with regards to "nudity" and political commentary. Youll see the occasional naked breast(s) with regards to German life and sexuality articles. Has Apple finally come to their senses with regards to what can and cant be shown on the iPad? If you read the print version, youll enjoy all the new features that Der Spiegel for the iPad offers. Subscriptions run through the application with direct debiting of your German bank account (Bankeinzug), credit card or billing by mail. The one potential catch: If you sign up through the app for the test subscription, youll have to decide whether to continue after the 9th issue (11 issues are offered at 29 Euro). Issues after the test subscription are billed at 3.65 Euro a piece.

Super App Spiegel!!

Working in Afghanistan this app really made my day. Bravo Spiegel for the app and the fair subscription price.

publisher needs new leadership

It really is beyond me how ill-advised (I wont say Dummkopf!) publishers are in this massive and revolutionary shift to digital. It would take someone with the intelligence of, say, a five-year old child to recognize the opportunity here: begin selling the digital edition at a very compelling price (like $1.99 per issue). Do anything to develop a loyal following of your publication--everything should focus on raising a massive readership at this phase (Yes, I do own a Der Spiegel t-shirt!). Only after you achieve this do you adjust pricing to an acceptable profitability. The only thing Der Spiegel is doing at $5.00 an issue is to alienate its fans. Der Spiegel, are you listening? Please get someone under 45 to run your company, someone who understands contemporary business principles!

Epic Fail!

Downloaded the app, purchased the latest issue but i get an error when downloading. I guess thats $5 down the drain.

Finally! :))

After moving to the US I really missed reading the SPIEGEL as the international paper subscription is way to expensive. Now Im finally able to read it again. The App is responsive and the interface works well for me. Pricing is in line with other magazine apps and will hopefully go down over time - however I dont blame publishers by trying to start with a higher pricing..

Great app - price is stupid!

Great app - but dont think Ill use it often - this price is ridiculous. I understand that publishers need to replace their lost revenue from printed versions, but the e-version should reflect cost savings made through logistics and material saved. Increasing the price over the paper version is a bad bad joke!!

Extremely slow

Downloading each issue is extremely slow even over a fast connection and needs to be done with the app in the foreground. Basically, you can kiss your iPad goodbye for 10-15 minutes.

Fantastic!

Very well written app. Intuitive navigation, good background information with slideshows and videos. Successful transition from print to a digital issue. Love it! but I think the price should be only $2.99 per issue to make it more attractive to more people. And older issues should be only $0.99. Otherwise highly recommended!

Inflated Price for in App Purchases

This e-Reader for the German News Magazine "der Spiegel" is like a copy of Zinios e-Reader only with the disadvantage of having yet another app on my iPad and actually with subscription prices far higher than offered for comparable magazines through Zinio. Sorry, but Im really prepared to pay for my "Spiegel", but not through the nose, which means back to reading the web site and now and then buying the paper version, when back in Germany.

In app subscriptions

Only thing missing: in-app subscriptions!!!!! Just do it already

In German only?

The description says "English" but the iPad app is currently in German.

Potential, but.....

What can i say, it has potential but: - too big files, per magazine around 130 mb - no in-app purchases - no newstand connection
