Hey Time Magazine, WSJ, NYTimes, take a look at this app. This is the best newspaper/magazine implementation so far.
If they keep the price at or less than 50% of the paper magazine for individual issue sales or subscriptions, then they deserve 10 stars.
Beautifully executed, makes me want to read it -- and improve my German.
Awesome app for a great magazine. Fun to read articles on the iPad, and videos are available, too. Good job, well done!
I like the app. Not as engaging as, say, Paris Match visually, but thats not really what counts.
The price of the magazine should definitely be cheaper than the print version, as you dont need to cut down trees, transport them to the paper factory, turn them into paper, print them with ink that costs money, then ship the magazine around the world. So, no the price is not justified, quality journalism or not.

Positive: you can download the magazine and read it offlline.
Negative: too expensive for the digital copy. Should be 50% of the hard copy.
Some bad moments
I just purchased an eddition, however, wasnt able to download it (dowload process dosent work properly).
It really is beyond me how ill-advised (I wont say Dummkopf!) publishers are in this massive and revolutionary shift to digital. It would take someone with the intelligence of, say, a five-year old child to recognize the opportunity here: begin selling the digital edition at a very compelling price (like $1.99 per issue). Do anything to develop a loyal following of your publication--everything should focus on raising a massive readership at this phase (Yes, I do own a Der Spiegel t-shirt!). Only after you achieve this do you adjust pricing to an acceptable profitability. The only thing Der Spiegel is doing at $5.00 an issue is to alienate its fans.
Der Spiegel, are you listening? Please get someone under 45 to run your company, someone who understands contemporary business principles!
Downloaded the app, purchased the latest issue but i get an error when downloading. I guess thats $5 down the drain.
Great app - but dont think Ill use it often - this price is ridiculous. I understand that publishers need to replace their lost revenue from printed versions, but the e-version should reflect cost savings made through logistics and material saved. Increasing the price over the paper version is a bad bad joke!!
Downloading each issue is extremely slow even over a fast connection and needs to be done with the app in the foreground. Basically, you can kiss your iPad goodbye for 10-15 minutes.
This e-Reader for the German News Magazine "der Spiegel" is like a copy of Zinios e-Reader only with the disadvantage of having yet another app on my iPad and actually with subscription prices far higher than offered for comparable magazines through Zinio. Sorry, but Im really prepared to pay for my "Spiegel", but not through the nose, which means back to reading the web site and now and then buying the paper version, when back in Germany.
