This is a download app for subscribers, meaning you have pay to read the magazine. When will there be Spiegel Online for the iPad? The iPhone version doesnt scale on the iPad, so its totally unusable.

Add newsstand capability and I will buy a subscription and increase my rating to 5 stars! All three iPads can run iOS 5 so there is no reason this app should not be updated alongside an iPhone version so we can our subscription material on either device.
AFTER you go through registration they tell you that is is NOT free. I felt misled.
Despite what the description says, this app requires an Internet connection to correctly initiate. If you are offline, you cannot access your downloaded issues. A complete fail. Am I the only one with this problem? Completely defies the purpose of this app. No Spiegel for you on the trainer on the plane. Ohne Internet verweigert die App den Zugriff auf die bereits geladenen und bezahlten Hefte. Hirnrissig.
After updating to this version of the app there is no audio on videos and interactive features. Unfortunately the app support section at Spiegel-online is not helpful at all.
The app is ok, easy to use, the bugs in the earlier versions are fixed. But - there is an overzealous approach to copyright and some half-cooked features that keep it a frustrating experience. There is quite the hype about a spoken version of the magazine. At closer look its maybe a couple of articles per issue. How difficult can it be .... There is a function to print an article - but for some funny reason not all articles can be printed. What for ? I pay for it - why can I not take a copy and file it for future reference or to remind me tomorrow that I need to do something about it. First of all - I buy the print version as well, so I actually can just scan this. But thats rather ridiculous. And I am sure somebody somewhere is putting the content in the web anyway. Guys , really, if I pay for it I should also get full access.
The app loads too slowly. Even after downloading the entire magazine, some articles dont load, the table of contents is inaccessible at times, the info graphics are too small and not scaleable, the app crashes occasionally, and the small bold headlines are in serious need of kerning. I wish I still had access to the old one which was mostly an interactive PDF of the print Spiegel. Im hoping for fixes soon—this is terribly frustrating after reading Spiegel for nearly 40 years!
This is by far the best Spiegel app yet. Loads fast and in background and I enjoying reading it on the iPad Pro.
Even translated into English!
I have used the Spiegel app for several years. It is an excellent app and I recommend it
The app is a good compromise between a paper experience and pure online media. DER SPIEGEL provides excellent perspective either way, the app is especially convenient for those who live abroad and may not have quick access to the print edition.
